VOLCANO ART CENTER

The Volcano Art Center is a nonprofit, tax-exempt, educational organization
created in 1974 to promote, develop and perpetuate the artistic and cultural
heritage of Hawaii's people and environment through activities in the
visual, literary and performing arts. Under a cooperating agreement with the

5TH ANNUAL KONA INTERNATIONAL BREWER'S FESTIVAL
Date: March 18
Time: 2:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.
Place: Kona Beach Hotel
King Kamehameha's Kona Beach Hotel Luau Grounds. An annual event designed to promote the Microbrewery
Revolution in Hawaii, encourage professional brewers and chefs to work together as an industry and have a positive
economic and environmental effect on the community. Tickets in advance $30, day of event $35. Includes: glass, tasting

NATIONAL EXTENSION TOURISM CONFERENCE
Date: April 30 - May 3
Place: Royal Kona Resort Hotel, Kailua-Kona
National gathering of tourism professionals to exchange information and experiences with innovative programs that
balance community values, natural and cultural resources, and economic development. Topics include ecotourism, nature-
and culture-based tourism, community-based tourism, heritage areas and corridors, and scenic byways. Public is

MOKU O HAWAII OUTRIGGER CANOE ASSOC. LONG DISTANCE RACE HEI HEI (A FUN RACE)
Date: June 3
Time: 8:00 a.m. to Noon (approx.) Registration 7:00 a.m.
Place: Keahou (sponsored by Keauhou Canoe Club)
An exciting and colorful day of outrigger canoe racing by members of the Moku O Hawaii Outrigger Canoe Association.
The Association consists of 13 clubs and 2500 paddlers. During April to September, the Association and individual clubs
sponsor Regattas and Long-Distance events. Each club submits an entry to one or more of the 34 divisions held during
these events. The long distance races usually cover 8 to 12 miles, taking about 2 hours. Women race first followed by the
men's race. After the event, there is a luau or lunch (often with great entertainment) followed by an award ceremony.
Tickets can be purchased by the public to attend the luau. Call: (808) 324-1541.
KING KAMEHAMEHA CELEBRATION
Date: Saturday, June 10
Time: 9:00 a.m.
Place: Kailua-Kona
This event honors Kamehameha the Great, unifier of the Hawaiian Kingdom. The annual parade will travel along Alii
Drive in Kailua-Kona and will involve community marching units, decorated vehicles, colorful floral floats, glamorous

An exciting and colorful day of outrigger canoe racing by members of the Moku O Hawaii Outrigger Canoe Association.
The Association consists of 13 clubs and 2500 paddlers. During April to September, the Association and individual clubs
sponsor Regattas and Long-Distance events. Each club submits an entry to one or more of the 34 divisions held during
these events. The Regattas are measured courses broken into1/4 mile intervals. Club canoes line up in lanes marked by
flags to race to their 1/4 mile flag. The day starts with 12 year olds racing first, followed by teenagers and adults.
Youngsters race 1/4 mile - older, more experienced racers go 1/2 mile to two miles. All canoes used in the Regattas are
carved from the rare Koa logs now only found on Big Island and cost in excess of $30,000 per canoe. Call: (808)

KING KAMEHAMEHA DAY CELEBRATION
Date: June 12
Malia Puka O Kalani Church in Hilo sponors this annual celebration in honor of Kamehameha the Great. Free
entertainment, crafts, foods and a noontime re-enactment of a historical event in Kamehameha's lifetime. Moku Ola

8TH ANNUAL JR./SR. VET TENNIS TOURNAMENT AND FATHER'S DAY CHALLENGE

ANNUAL HAWAIIAN CULTURAL FESTIVAL

Every day a different Hawaiian art will be demonstrated. On July 1 and July 2 events will include a royal court

KONA MARATHON AND FAMILY FUN RUNS
Date: June 25
Place: Kona Coast
This event includes a Marathon, Half Marathon, 10K, and 5K runs. All distances are open to walkers and runners alike.
All four courses are out and back and are run on the famous IRONMAN Triathlon run course. The scenic routes run
along the shoreline of the Kona Coast offering beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean and lush Hawaiian rain forests. Truly,
