Kealakekua Bay was made famous when Captain Cook landed there. Easy access by
Napo'opo'o Rd., enjoy spectacular views as you drive the scenic route to Napo'opo'o Beach
Park. A famous HEIAU dedicated to the harvest god, Lono, once stood here. When Captain
Cook sailed into Kealakekua Bay, the festival honoring Lono was being actively celebrated.
the white sail of the captains ship matched the Tapa banners everywhere. With a prophecy
that Lono would return on a floating Island, Cook was mistaken for Lono and welcomed as a
god. Why not join us and hear the rest of the this tale?

be rented locally). Enjoy many local restaurants with excellent fare, inc. Local fish, Ono
(delicious), Ahi (tuna) and many others. Kona Historical Museum is just outside Kealakekua
village. this historic nineteenth century store, houses the museum, built by rancher H.N.
