Inside Hobbit House, every nook and cranny holds another delight, as the owners, Bill and Darlene Whaling, are an accomplished woodworker and stained glass artist, respectively. No wonder guests are speechless when they arrive; the house is a standing work of art from which one can reflect on the joy of solitude, and the beauty of nature.

Hobbit House is located near Volcanoes National Park, and beaches of
green, white and black sand. Punalu'u Black Sand Beach is only 10 miles away. It is a
great spot to snorkel and is a nesting area for green sea turtles. There are picnic
pavilions located at one end of the beach and the ancient stone footpath called the King's
Trail at the other. Journey down to historic South Point by way of the one lane paved road
and explore the first landing site of the Hawaiians or venture further to the one and only
famous green sand beach made of olivine crystals.
Hobbit House is off the beaten path, and powered by wind and solar energy. Most of the hot water comes from solar heat. Bill will be happy to show you the power system he has designed. It allows for all of the modern amenities, such as fax & computer. We can keep you in touch if you need to be!
